AHVAP members,

As previously communicated, the Board of Directors has approved and recommended an amendment to the current bylaws regarding Membership. For those of you who may not be familiar with the recommendation, the amendment is summarized below:

Currently membership is open to individuals involved in value analysis and employed by a hospital, health system, or organizations involved in value analysis services. This prohibits anyone who is employed in healthcare fields as suppliers, trade press, GPOs, distributors, etc. from becoming a member. AHVAP’s vision is to promote value analysis within the healthcare community which includes providers and suppliers.

In reviewing other national associations with similar membership categories, the addition of an Affiliate Membership allows individuals who are employed in healthcare fields as suppliers, trade press, GPOs, distributors, etc. to become a member.

The Affiliate membership level is as follows:

Affiliate Membership criteria:
Affiliate members shall be individuals employed in the following or related healthcare fields, i.e., suppliers, trade press, distributors and GPO members not directly involved in any value analysis activities such as: value analysis consulting, cost reductions, quality improvements and benchmarking.

Affiliate Membership rights and responsibilities: Please review the table below to compare full member vs. proposed affiliate member rights and responsibilities. The addition of an Affiliate Membership will open the door for AHVAP to create a new affiliate member advisory position to the Board of Directors. The affiliate member advisor will be board appointed and a non-voting position. This position will support the collaboration between the Board of Directors and the healthcare community in helping AHVAP to achieve their mission and vision.

Current Full and Retiree Member Rights and Responsibilities

  • Receive all communications and announcements sent to the membership
  • Attend association meetings that involve the entire membership
  • Participate in membership activities and committees
  • Vote on all issues before the membership
  • Hold an appointed office
  • Hold elected office

Proposed Affiliate Rights and Responsibilities

  • Provide board service through an appointed Advisory Position on the Board of Directors

In addition the Regular and Retiree Membership levels are modified:

Regular members shall be involved in value analysis or healthcare supply chain/materials management and employed by a hospital, health system, or organizations involved in value analysis activities such as value analysis consulting, cost reductions, quality improvements and benchmarking. Regular members cannot be involved in sales activities or promotional activities if employed outside of a hospital or health system.

Retiree members are current AHVAP members in good standing who may be retired from value analysis work regardless of employment status. Retiree members cannot be involved in sales activities or promotional activities if employed outside of a hospital or health system.
