Journal of Healthcare Value Analysis: From Poster to Manuscript
Friday, October 23, 2026, 3:00 AM - 4:00 PM EDT
Category: AHVAP Office Hours

Somewhere in your organization right now there is a value analysis project that saved money, improved an outcome, or prevented a harm, and it will never be written down.

That is not a small loss. It is the reason value analysis still gets described as a cost function instead of a clinical discipline. We are doing the work. We are not publishing the work.

So we are doing something about it.

On October 23 at 3:00 pm ET, Dr. Rodney Hicks and AHVAP Journal of Healthcare Value Analysis Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Hudson Garrett, are teaching AHVAP members how to turn a poster or an internal project into a manuscript for the Journal of Healthcare Value Analysis.

Dr. Hicks is Associate Dean for Administration and Research and Professor at Western University of Health Sciences College of Graduate Nursing. He has mentored more first time authors through their first publication than almost anyone we know. He is an Associate Editor for the AORN Journal and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for the AORN Journal and the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

What we will actually cover:

Your poster already has every section a manuscript needs. Title, background, purpose, methods, results, conclusions. The manuscript version is the same architecture with more room. We will walk that mapping section by section.

The two line background becomes a real introduction with a literature review and a gap statement. We will show you how to build a twenty to forty source reference list without losing a weekend.

Methods have to be detailed enough that someone else could replicate your project. Most first drafts are not. We will show you what is missing.

Which article type to pick. Quality improvement, research, clinical, education, or review. Most member work fits more comfortably than people expect.

What a complete submission package contains, and what happens after you hit submit.

If you have ever looked at a peer reviewed journal and thought that was for other people, this hour is specifically for you.
