Mastering Instructions for Use (IFU) for Medical Products is a focused micro-credential designed to help healthcare value analysis professionals, infection preventionists, biomedical engineers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals effectively interpret and implement manufacturer guidelines/instructions for use and apply them in the clinical context for infection prevention and control. Participants will learn how to critically evaluate IFUs to ensure safe, evidence-based usage of medical products throughout the continuum of care. This will include the evaluation of both products regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Through practical case studies and real-world applications, attendees will gain insights into preventing errors, reducing healthcare-associated infections, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and clinical standards. This program emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, empowering professionals to enhance patient safety and improve clinical outcomes by mastering the nuances of product-specific IFUs.

Micro-Credential Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the core components of medical product Instructions for Use and explain their significance in ensuring proper device handling, patient safety, and infection prevention.
  2. Evaluate best practices and regulatory requirements for translating IFU information into daily clinical workflows, thereby reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections and adverse events.
  3. Apply effective communication strategies and collaborative approaches that foster a standardized, team-based approach to reviewing and utilizing IFUs across diverse healthcare settings.

Upon successful completion of the entire program, attendees will receive 6.0 hours of Continuing Education towards CVAHPTM recertification or nursing licenses/certifications. Credit will also be issued for Infection Preventionists, Patient Safety Professionals, and Healthcare Quality Professionals. Upon completion of the micro-credential exam, you will be issued a digital badge highlighting your new micro-certification through your digital badging partner-Credly.
