Why Pursue Professional Board Certification in

Healthcare Value Analysis?

Value of Certification

Credentialing is an overarching term that includes processes, policies, and practices that support
credentials such as a license, registration, certification, qualification, or assessment-based certificate to
demonstrate that an organization or individual has met predetermined and standardized criteria. Given
the range of terms, different interpretations and distinctions between mandatory versus voluntary
requirements among these credentials, can create confusion.

Certification is a process by which an entity grants formal recognition to individuals that meet
predetermined, standardized criteria. The certification process involves determination of eligibility, an
assessment of demonstration of competence, and requirements for regular recertification. Certification
is usually voluntary and established by a non-governmental entity.

Value of Certification*

A high-quality certification validates an individual’s knowledge, skills, and abilities in a defined
profession, occupation, skill, or role. Certified individuals in the workforce reduce risk and enhance
consumer protection and public safety. In addition, these certifications allow employers and other
stakeholders to identify individuals with the competencies needed to perform a role or task.

Certification holders benefit from:

  • Increased recognition by peers and respect of colleagues in the profession
  • Improved opportunities for employability and advancement
  • Greater confidence in their professional competence
  • Increased professional trust from employers or the public
  • Increased autonomy in the workplace
  • Better compensation and career longevity

Consumers and Patients benefit from:

  • Objective, independent, third-party evaluation and assessment of professional competence
  • Commitment to public safety and/or consumer protection
  • Accountability through ethical conduct standards and/or a disciplinary process
  • Recertification requirements for continued or enhanced competence

Healthcare Employers benefit from:

  • Qualified individuals for employment or advancement
  • Recertification requirements for continued or enhanced competence
  • Commitment to public safety and/or consumer protection
  • Reduced risk of errors, accidents and/or legal liability
  • Reduced employee turnover and increased job satisfaction
  • Justification for potential compensation differential

The Value of Becoming CVAHPTM Certified – And Why It Matters

Choosing to become CVAHPTM certified has been one of the most meaningful, intentional decisions I have made in my professional journey. For me, it goes far beyond gaining letters after my name—it’s deeply tied to my why.

My career path into value analysis has been unique, and I am grateful for that.  From healthcare sales to distribution, then into Supply Chain, and ultimately into value analysis, each step I have taken has strengthened my understanding of just how much we all impact patients and their families.  Healthcare is a career and a calling – not just another job.

My father’s fight against cancer has further demonstrated to me firsthand how much we all play a part in patient care.  His journey has crystalized my belief that every patient deserves the absolute best, and as healthcare value analysis professionals, we are the “tip of the spear”.  This belief fuels my work every single day.  My dad and patients like him, is my why.

Becoming CVAHPTM certified is a commitment, both to yourself and to the patients we are privileged to serve.  Earning my certification has allowed me to:

  • Achieve a personal accomplishment and goal
  • Demonstrate my dedication to continuous professional growth
  • Build trust among my coworkers, our clinical teams, and organizational leaders
  • Open doors to future career advancement and new opportunities in healthcare

If you’ve been considering certification, I encourage you to take the step. Invest in your growth. Strengthen your expertise. Elevate the value you bring to your team, your organization, and to patients.  We can all make a difference.
